Why limit the tempting, savoury flavours of falafel to pita pockets? This gluten-free falafel recipe calls upon your pantry essentials including chickpeas, herbs, and tahini to make burgers that are as healthy as they are filling. Served on our gluten-free Millet & Chia Burger Buns and topped with any crunchy veggie in the fridge, these burgers will make everyone at home a falafel fan!

step 01

Add chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley and cilantro in a food processor and pulse until roughly chopped.

step 02

Add oat flour, tahini, lemon juice, and spices and pulse until they’re all combined. Form into 4 patties and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.

step 03

Bake for 15 minutes, flip the patties, and cook for an additional 7 minutes, until firm and lightly browned.

step 04

To serve, spread mayonnaise on a toasted bun and top with the patties and veggies.

Tips & Substitutions
  • Substitute the fresh herbs for dried parsley and cilantro in the pantry instead. Dried herbs pack a powerful punch, so you’ll want to reduce the quantity in the falafel recipe. A simple conversion when a recipe calls for fresh herbs is to use 1/3 of that amount in dried herbs instead. For these patties, you’ll want to add 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon of dried parsley and 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons of dried cilantro.
  • No red onion at home? These falafels burgers are just as delicious with ¼ cup of chopped yellow onion or chopped shallots instead.
  • Make it once and serve it twice! These freezer-friendly gluten-free falafel recipe will last up to a month when stored in the freezer in an airtight container.
