Did you know that we bake our delicious gluten-free breads with wholesome plant-based ingredients that we can guarantee come from only non-genetically modified sources? From the moment we baked that first loaf, Little Northern Bakehouse breads have been Non-GMO Project Verified to assure that each ingredient was not produced with genetically engineered ingredients or contain GMOs.

Non-GMO Project Verified

Why are we so passionate about keeping GMOs of your plate? First off, we do not want to improve on nature’s design. Altering a plant’s genes with DNA from a different species to make that plant tolerant to herbicides, insecticides, or drought is not something that occurs in nature. This is different from hybrids that are created by cross-pollination, which can happen in the wild or when a farmer employs traditional cross-breeding farming methods.

In addition, we believe you have the right to know what’s in the food you’re eating and feeding your family. Since studies have linked GMO foods to unintended effects on health and the environment and the long-term impact of GMOs is not yet clear, we feel strongly about keeping GMOs out of our breads and buns.

What else can you do to steer clear of genetically modified ingredients? Buy organic foods, which are not produced with GMOs, and other Non-GMO Project Verified products that display the seal. You can also download the Non-GMO Project Shopping Guide app to your phone so you can quickly scan products to see whether or not they have been tested to not contain GMOs. When a food does not have a label on its package, like fresh produce, be sure to buy certified-organic fruits and vegetables, especially when it comes to crops known to be genetically modified: corn, papaya, zucchini, and yellow summer squash.
