Burgers get all the glory—and we can’t really dispute their ability to always crush our biggest cravings—but now, there’s a new flavour train rolling into our kitchen: the bunwich. This slightly-lighter underdog cousin of the big bad burger hits the sweet spot between satisfied and stuffed. Here are five of our faves we put together on our delicious Millet & Chia buns.

Grilled Veggie Bunwich

Dig into Mediterranean flavors. We layered roasted zucchini, peppers, eggplant, and shallots on our fluffy gluten-free buns and let some of our favourite Miyoko’s cheese melt over the veggies for a chewy, melty combo.

Pulled Jackfruit and ‘Slaw Bunwich

The pull-apart texture of jackfruit makes for an awesome sandwich. Tossed in BBQ sauce, topped with crunch coleslaw, and layered on a bed of lettuce with mayo on our buns—even better.

Mushroom Melt Bunwich

This mushroom melt is succulent and super-savoury. The Portobello texture is great for when you’re wanting something a little more substantial. Caramelized onions and plant-based cheese make this melt magic.

Spinach Falafel Bunwich

When all you can think about is a food-cart falafel wrap, trade up for this healthy alternative. Fresh spinach baked falafel balls plus creamy curried hummus make this sammy earthy and satisfying.

Fillet-O-Tempeh Bunwich

Pea shoots, avocado, and vegan tartar sauce are layered under and over a hearty plant-based slice of battered tempeh. You can thank Lauren Toyota (aka @hotforfood) for this spin on a childhood favourite.
